Video Games History Quick Flashback
The history of video games dates back to 1940s. Video games were introduced as a result of scientific researches. Thomas Goldsmith Jr. developed the first video game named ‘Cathode Ray Tube Amusement Device’ in 1947. The device was about firing missiles game. In 1951, Christopher Starchy developed a draughts program.
British professor of Computer Science designed a graphical version of tac-toe in 1952. In this game, the player would compete with a computer using a rotary dial.
In 1958, American Physicist, William Higinbotham, developed ‘Tennis for Two’ video game. The game consisted of gravity-controlled game that would be played over a graphical net. In 1961, the first interactive computer game, Space War, was developed by Steve Russell.
The first coin-operated game, The Galaxy Game, was created in 1971. The Atari Company released the first arcade game called ‘PONG’ in 1972.
The 1980s witnessed the popularity of arcade games. Many arcade games like Defenders and Battlezone were developed during this period. 1984 marked the debut of 3D graphic video games. The first 3D graphic Video game, Elite, was released in this year.
The late 20th century and 21st century witnessed a new revolution of video games. Online gaming came to existence. Also, mobile phone games emerged.
